count how many
times you have
bitten your tongue,
and closed your mouth shut
for a stranger,
who only wanted to
power over you,
and cause you to stumble
against your will.
the blood spilled was
a vibrant reminder
that what is inside of us,
can be shown
to others,
that our pain
can show subtly
through our fingers,
our eyes.
the way your lips
touch the bottle
when you're nervous.
the way your soul
screams loud enough
to show through your eyes.

a tune
i let my heart
beat slowly
into a tune
that was once a lullaby
to the ones that were chosen.
the ones that were told
to hold their hands
around me,
and touch my soul
with a certain type of gentleness.
my eyes
could no longer
carry rivers,
rivers that had grown
wide over time
due to tears that
could not fall.
i still imagine
that you are here,
that your voice
will open
large doors
and cause an audience
to burst into
applause.
i still imagine
that your smile,
man,
that smile was worth every star
in the universe,
even with crooked teeth,
and less than pearly white
reflections.
my heart carries a tune for you.
a tune that will not
disappear
into the darkness,
but instead
carry me
when i feel alone,
reminding me of what was once there,
is still there,
just physically,
absent.
mentally,
you're home.
beat slowly
into a tune
that was once a lullaby
to the ones that were chosen.
the ones that were told
to hold their hands
around me,
and touch my soul
with a certain type of gentleness.
my eyes
could no longer

justice
i know my words
can't heal the broken hearts
or wipe the tears
from the eyes of my brothers and sisters,
but my god,
please provide us with
the strength
to not break down
at the fists of our oppressors.
give us the ability to see
peace between one brother to another,
and allow us to continue bonding together
and spreading our souls
to each other
like blankets,
continue spreading our truth
for justice.
can't heal the broken hearts
or wipe the tears
from the eyes of my brothers and sisters,
but my god,
please provide us with
the strength
to not break down
at the fists of our oppressors.
give us the ability to see
peace between one brother to another,
and allow us to continue bonding together
and spreading our souls
to each other
like blankets,
continue spreading our truth
for justice.

love, a series of short poems
she chose not
to refuse love
for she was far from afraid,
she was instead hopeful.
to refuse love
for she was far from afraid,
she was instead hopeful.
her soul was like the wind,
it twirled around you,
like fresh natural curls
and left you heart broken
like a rainy day.
dreaming,
for forever only lasted
a few days.
remember to smile at the moments
that break you down,
as much as you smile when you're happy.
you would never know love,
if you did not experience
the absence of it.
you spent more time in my
dreams
than you did
in my life.
how could i forget you.

wilderness
you were a mountain of feelings
I could not put a cage on.
the water never stops flowing,
I could not put a cage on.
the way your lips curled,
i thought you were the sea.
the thorns on your love
reminded me that
roses can hurt too.
what you birthed from our love,
was not nurtured
like a mother would care
for her child.
you provided me with shade,
i provided you with flowers.
the water never stops flowing,
like love.
